Tiny spruce trees

Tiny spruce trees,

two and three inches tall,

in a patch of broken rock.

Habit of mind

sees heroic signs of growth,

tributes to resilience.

Yet growth occurs

where fertile soil

surrenders to a passing seed,

with warmth and wet to share.

No effort here,

an easeful happenstance,

simple mystery of connection.
